Dual Nature Of Particles

 Did you ever thought that what your body is made up of? Or have you thought that what you will do in your future can affect your past also? Today in this series we will know about the Quantum world, which is known as the toughest subject in the world, in a simple and easy to understand way. So now let's get to know about the Dual nature of particles in this post.


We all know that light is an electromagnetic wave and you are in the form of matter. But according to dual nature of particles light is also a matter made up of particles called photons and you are also in form of a wave at the same time.


According to the theory of dual nature of particles every matter is also in the form of wave and every wave is in the form of matter at the same time.  Remember it, at the same time. When an observer observes anything it behaves like a matter but when he/she doesn't observes it it behaves like a wave. 

It was experimaentally proved by the double slit experiment by Thomas young in 1801. In the experiment he took a plate with two slits on it, each 0.4 mm long and 0.1 mm apart from each other. When it was not observed by any observer it was behaving like a wave. As a result an interferrence pattern was made on the screen as shown in the image showing that light is a wave.

But when an observer was observing the setup between the slits and the screen, light rays behaved like particles and instead of interferrence pattern, two parallel lines were seen which shows that light is a matter made up of particles.

This experiment clarifies that light shows dual nature. Above that many other theories have been discovered in the field of wave particle duality like the photometric theory of Albert Einstein.

Moreover, many scientists like Albert Einstien, Max Planck,  Louise de Brogile, Arthur Compton and Neils Bohr had done hardwork in the research of this wave-particle duality theory. 


Light which had been considered a form of electromagnetic wave must also be thought as a particle-like, localized in packets of discrete energy.

The energy is produced in quanta, i.e. small packets of energy. Energy emitted is directly related to the frequency of emitted light and this can be considered as the wave particle duality definition
